Slim Naturally Articles > The Good and Bad in Dieting

Dieting is always considered to be one of the most effective means in losing extra weight. In dieting, food amounts could be reduced to certain levels or specific food groups could be disallowed into the diet, like red meat and poultry in the case of the vegetarian diet. Moreover, carbohydrates could also be limited to a great extent, and the consumption of protein and fiber to be more encouraged during regular meals. For some people, being on a diet teaches them discipline and raises their perseverance in achieving a healthy lifestyle at all times. Some people also do it for personal reasons, for instance animal activists who have turned vegetarian due to their high regard for animals and its byproducts.

While being on a diet is not harmful and can even bring forth health benefits when done in the right manner, there are people who tend to abuse the practice of dieting. Some individuals are so bent on losing weight that they end up having eating disorders. Anorexia nervosa and bulimia are the eating disorders that mostly youthful individuals are subject to when misinformed about the extent of dieting. Deprivation of the body with essential nutrients can leave it in a state of fragility that can cause debilitating sickness and even death. Dieting is good when done in a controlled and informed means, but too much of it can definitely be disastrous for anyone in the long run.
